Club Palace
Real or CGI ?
Behind the Scenes
Club Palace was our breakthrough short film that propelled us to the international scene. The inspiration came from a canceled luxury brand shoot that left us disappointed but eager to create something remarkable with our talented team, including Camille Boyer and Nik Mirus. Months later, we regrouped and transformed the initial ideas into a personal project that evolved into something entirely different.
We dedicated most of the pre-production at Caravane, building sets and conducting tests with the help of many volunteers. The shoot itself was a marathon, spanning around 100 hours. In post-production, we collaborated with film composer Loïc Ouaret, whose original score exceeded our expectations and captured the perfect emotional tone.
The film premiered at the Modern Art Museum in Shanghai, where it received a mixed but impactful reception. Audiences were particularly impressed by the in-camera visuals instead of CGI, sparking numerous questions about our techniques. We emphasized that in-camera effects bring a unique warmth and authenticity that resonate more deeply than polished CGI. The hands-on process of building and shooting the sets added meaningful layers to the project.
When Club Palace was released, the response was phenomenal. The craftsmanship behind the real miniature sets, as opposed to 3D models, intrigued viewers worldwide, bringing significant attention to our work. This project also marked the emergence of the Caravane style, setting the tone for our creative direction in the years to come.
